Gadsby-Dolly: No delay in book grants

Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly says there is no delay in the distribution of the school supplies and book grants.
According to the minister, “There are 20,000 grants to be disbursed,” which she admitted is no “simple process.”
Dr Gadsby-Dolly said payments are being made daily and approximately 15,000 payments have already been disbursed.
In the 2024 budget, Minister of Finance Colm Imbert introduced a proposition to allocate a school supplies and book grants of $1,000 to support financially disadvantaged students at both primary and secondary school levels. To ascertain eligibility for this grant, the Ministry of Education had applicants take a means test.
Parents and guardians earning a salary of $10,000 or less, parents of students with disabilities and parents of students in receipt of grants from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services were eligible.
On July 29, the ministry said that during the week of August 5, distribution of the book grants to successful applicants, via direct deposit would have started.
It also said that starting on the week of August 12, people without bank accounts, who are carded to receive cheques would have been contacted via email or telephone.
