The government of Venezuela expressed this Tuesday its “absolute respect” to the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a few days after the Venezuelan attorney general, Tarek William Saab, described him as “spokesperson” of the Latin American left “captured” by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, a statement from which the Executive dissociates itself, assuring that it is an opinion “of a very personal nature” of the official.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs “expresses to national and international public opinion, especially to the people and government of (…) Brazil, that the recent statements issued by the attorney general of the republic about President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva correspond to opinions of a very personal and at no time do they reflect the position of the national Executive,” says a statement.

In an interview broadcast on Sunday on the Globovisión channel, Saab assured that it is “proven” that the Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, is a “CIA agent.” and “he is now followed,” according to the prosecutor, by the Brazilian head of state, who also “was captured.”

In addition, the Venezuelan official, who said he had met Lula, said that the president of the South American giant “He is not the same neither in his physique nor in how he expresses himself.» compared to the one who «founded and harangued the Brazilian labor movements» in the seventies and eighties.

This Tuesday, the Venezuelan Executive reaffirmed its commitment to “building ties of brotherhood and solidarity” with Brazil, and expressed its “absolute respect for the career” of Lula and “his leadership.”

Lula, a historic ally of Chavismo, still does not recognize the controversial re-election of Maduro proclaimed by the National Electoral Council (CNE) in the presidential elections of July 28, and has urged the publication of the disaggregated results of this process, something that has not been done despite the fact that it is established in the official voting schedule.

Likewise, the progressive leader has insisted on the possibility of continuing to attempt joint mediation by Brazil, Colombia and Mexico to promote a dialogue between his Venezuelan counterpart and the majority opposition, which denounces “fraud” and claims the “victory” of its standard bearer. Edmundo González Urrutia, now exiled in Spain.
