The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has served and carried out eviction notices to several errant tenants across the country as it aims to recover over $3 million.

On Wednesday, the HDC said it evicted 13 individuals from units in four developments: Greenvale Park in La Horquetta, Cashew Gardens in Carlsen Field, Oasis Greens in Chaguanas, and Cypress Hill in San Fernando.

The HDC said it also has identified other developments for future evictions, including Coconut Grove in Mayaro, Exchange Village in Couva, Harmony Hall in Marabella, and Vieux Fort in St. James.

According to the HDC, its eviction process starts with a Letter of Arrears sent to tenants with outstanding payments. If tenants do not respond, the HDC issues a Notice to Quit, informing them of the need to vacate the premises. If they remain after the given timeframe, the HDC proceeds with eviction.

After eviction, the HDC prepares the unit for reallocation. The Corporation says it still expects evicted tenants to honour their commitments and settle any arrears, though.

The HDC said it does not actually want to evict tenants from their homes, but it considers this measure necessary to recover substantial debts and reclaim affordable housing units for those in need.

The Corporation thanked those who settled their debts and urged others to do the same.
