Health Ministry sets record straight on $15M estimate for legal bills
The Ministry of Health has issued a statement refuting what it says is “inaccurate information” published in two daily newspapers today, regarding the estimate of $15 million for legal matters.
The issue was raised during the Standing Finance Committee meeting on Friday, October 11, 2024.
In the statement, the Ministry writes:
“To clarify, the $15 million referenced during yesterday’s Standing Finance Committee in Parliament, is a total estimate for the 2024/2025 fiscal year to cover any possible legal settlements that may arise for the health sector for the current fiscal period.”
It continued: “The Ministry confirms that this figure is purely a precautionary total estimate to cover the 2024/2025 fiscal period.”
“During the last fiscal year,” the Ministry’s statement said, “there was a payment from the allocation for legal settlements for fiscal 2023/2024 for one legal matter involving the South-West Regional Health Authority, which was settled for under $1 million.”
