The Press and Society Institute (IPYS) demanded this Saturday that measures be taken to guarantee the right of access to informationas well as protecting press workers, regarding the International Day of Universal Access to Information.

«In Venezuela, access to information faces serious limitations, which generates an environment of opacity and vulnerability for citizens. In 2024, the situation has worsened with information blockades and persecution of journalists“said the organization in a publication in x.

Likewise, he said that the lack of access to “truthful and timely” information affects the “ability of citizens to make informed decisions and compromises transparency and democratic exercise.”

The IPYS indicated that between January and September of this year it has documented 49 cases of “access restrictions” to communicators to cover events of public interest, 37 of them, he said, during election coverage.

Furthermore, he continued, he recorded the “blockade” of 37 web pages, which includes media, information portals, as well as verification platforms.

«During the same period, 18 radio stations have been closed by state entities in different regions of the country. Also 11 radio and television programs, informative and opinion, have been arbitrarily suspended,” IPYS added.
