Jorge Rodríguez dismisses the rector Juan Carlos Delpino

The National Assembly controlled by Jorge Rodríguez dismissed this Thursday the main rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE) Juan Carlos Delpino – who denounced irregularities in the presidential elections on July 28 – and asked the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate him for alleged corruption and betrayal of the homeland, among other crimes.

The Legislature asks the Public Ministry to “peremptorily” open a “criminal investigation” against the current former electoral director – who is outside the country – also for “association to commit a crime, complicity with foreign powers” and “complicity in the homicides committed.” in the context of post-election protests, estimated at 27 by the authorities.

The AN also approved Rodríguez’s proposal to urge the application of the Domain Forfeiture Law – a framework of action that allows the State to take assets and wealth from corrupt officials and drug traffickers – to the “ill-gotten assets of this criminal.” », among which he mentioned «high-end vehicles» and «luxury homes».

Likewise, he requested the Comptroller General’s Office to establish “administrative sanctions” against Delpino.

Last August, the former rector denounced “irregularities” in the elections, which, in his opinion, lost confidence in the integrity of the process, as well as in the proclaimed victory of President Nicolás Maduro, indicated as fraudulent by the largest opposition coalition. -the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD)-, which demands the victory of its candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia.
