Kamla: Bullying, domestic violence a national crisis

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has labelled domestic violence and bullying a national crisis, urging immediate action to protect women and children across the nation.

Speaking at a Divali function at her Siparia constituency office on Sunday evening, Persad-Bissessar said she recognised the alarming rise in incidents of domestic abuse as well as bullying in schools and stressed that a multi-faceted approach is needed to tackle these pressing issues. “This is a national crisis, and we must curb this trend.” The Opposition Leader also lobbied the country’s diplomats to continue programmes aimed at assisting the country’s most vulnerable population. Persad-Bissessar stressed that lives must no longer be shattered by violence and intimidation. –JESSE RAMDEO
