Lack of water in Venezuelan hospitals puts patients’ lives at risk

The NGO Monitor Salud reported this Monday, September 16, that the absence of water in the hospitals in Venezuela is endangering the lives of patientsThis is due to the serious failures that the service is suffering throughout the country.

Through the social network X, the organization highlighted that among the consequences of the lack of water in health centers are the lack of hygiene, the impossibility of performing medical procedures and the use of contaminated water.

Regarding the impossibility of carrying out adequate hygiene in Venezuelan hospitals, Monitor Salud pointed out that Lack of cleanliness in facilities increases the risk of infections in patients.

They said the lack of water in health centres severely limits the capacity to provide care.

A few weeks ago, health personnel at the Dr. José Baldo Hospital, known as El Algodonal in Caracas, reported that the water to the clinic was arriving in poor condition, preventing adequate care for patients and putting their health at risk.

A photograph published by Monitor Salud showed that the water in the health center was brown, a situation that has also been reported by citizens in other areas of Caracas.

Shortage of cleaning supplies in Venezuelan hospitals

During the first half of 2024, a monitoring carried out by the organization in 44 healthcare centers also revealed a significant shortage of cleaning supplies.

Chlorine is insufficient in 61% of hospitals, soap is missing in 41% and disinfectant is absent in 54.5% of the country’s health centers.
