Letter that Edmundo González sent to Tarek William Saab is released

  • Sep, Thu, 2024

This Wednesday it was released on social networks the document, in the name of opposition leader Edmundo González, that lawyer José Vicente Haro delivered to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in which respect for procedural guarantees is requested, which – it claims – “were not present” in the three summons issued by the institution.

The letter states that the “non-appearance” is not due to “ignorance of the jurisdictional institutionality provided for in the Constitution,” but “the conviction of the lack of foundation of such citations and for reasons that concern the public interest and the correct understanding of the law and the right, whose essential ends are justice and peace.”

“I believe that such an appearance could only contribute to further intensifying social tension, in addition to consolidating a context of incriminating judicialisation of politics that we should all reject,” the opposition member said in the letter.

In response, he stressed: “It was not my responsibility to digitize, safeguard and publish the copies of the voting minutes that our witnesses received at the voting tables,” as the Democratic Unitary Platform had stated at the time.

Edmundo González: CNE functions have not been usurped

The opposition leader considered that the functions of the National Electoral Council have not been usurped, since the electoral system and regulations of Venezuela contemplate, as one of their guarantees of reliability, the delivery of voting records to accredited witnesses at the voting tables.

Edmundo González also pointed out that his appearance before the Public Prosecutor’s Office “could further intensify social tension, “In addition to consolidating a context of incriminating judicialisation of politics that we must all reject.”

“My conduct is guided at all times by respect for the law, in keeping with my career of public service to the nation, to which I have dedicated forty of my seventy-five years of life… Ultimately, Mr. Attorney General, it is in the country’s interest that we broaden the field of democratic politics, not that we narrow it by means of the criminal prosecution of a matter in which the Venezuelan people had and have the leading role and which must be substantiated in that sphere,” he concluded.

Tarek William Saab received a document from Edmundo González’s lawyer

Tarek William Saab announced, after more than two hours of meeting with lawyer José Vicente Haro, that he will make an announcement to the country on Thursday.

Through the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Instagram account, Saab explained that the lawyer and González Urrutia recognized the powers of that judicial body and its actions.

“Said lawyer, like his client requested by law, recognized the constitutional and legal powers of the Public Prosecutor’s Office as the holder of the criminal action to undertake and develop the investigations that may be necessary,” he wrote on the agency’s official account.

The publication announced: «Tomorrow we will reveal the whole truth».
