Linda Loaiza López Soto denounces impunity after six years of the IACHR ruling in her favor

Venezuelan lawyer Linda Loaiza López Soto, who was kidnapped, tortured, mutilated and raped in 2001, denounced this Thursday impunity by the State after six years of condemnatory sentence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) in his favor.

«Today, September 26, marks six years since the ruling of the sentence (López Soto), each of those years I have been requesting the Venezuelan State to comply with its obligation of the sentence handed down by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights«Loaiza wrote on the social network X.

The Venezuelan lawyer said that it cannot be “so costly” for victims, especially women, to achieve justice for the “atrocious crimes committed against us, in this case, fully proven and judged in an international court.”

“Six years have passed since that sentence and for the Venezuelan State its existence is a dead letter, this reality is one of the reasons that deepens the lack of guarantees so that women can live a life free of violence,” she noted.

In 2018, the IACHR found the State “responsible for the acts of torture and sexual violence suffered by Linda Loaiza López Soto,” who was kidnapped by a man on March 27, 2001 when she was 18 years old, until almost four Months later, on July 19 of that year, she was rescued by the authorities in terrible health conditions.

The IACHR judges considered it proven that, during the period she was kidnapped, “she was continuously subjected to various acts of physical, verbal, psychological and sexual violence, including the forced intake of alcohol, drugs and medications, deprivation of food. , repeated vaginal, anal and object rapes.

According to the sentence, he was also the victim of “blows that caused blunt trauma and bruises to his face, ears, thorax and abdomen, a fracture of his nose and jaw, among others.”

In the internal criminal process in Venezuela, two oral trials were held, since the first was annulled, according to the IACHR, and as a result of the second criminal process, the aggressor, identified as Luis Carrera Almoina, was convicted of the crimes of deprivation of liberty and very serious injuries, but acquitted of rape.
