Man arrested in Monagas for human trafficking to Trinidad and Tobago

A 48-year-old man was arrested in Monagas, a coastal state of the country close to Trinidad and Tobago, for the crime of trafficking in persons destined for that island nation, the director of the Scientific, Criminal and Investigations Corps reported on Tuesday. Rico indicated on Instagram that The man, identified as Rickel Manuel Rivas Mendoza, was dedicated to recruiting and transporting young women under deception and false promises to the island of Trinidad and Tobago.in order to be sexually exploited for economic gain.

The man was captured in a sector of Maturín, capital of the Monagas state (east), during an operation in which a vehicle was seized, which was used as a means of commission to commit the crime.

“The Cicpc continues investigations to determine the participation of others involved in this incident,” he added.

Domingo Hernández Lárez, strategic operational commander of the Armed Forces, said last March they had dismantled a network that was dedicated to the recruitment and sale of minors destined for Trinidad and Tobago.

He then explained that the uniformed officers captured two men and two women in flagrante delicto, who belonged to a structured organized crime group that operated in the state of Sucre (northeast), close to the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean Sea.

This group – he said – was dedicated to human trafficking, through the recruitment of boys, girls and adolescents in the city of Cumaná, capital of Sucre, destined for the town of Güiria, where boats leave daily for the island country. , located less than 100 kilometers away.

A report of the NGO Mulier Venezuela points out that a total of 1,390 Venezuelan women were rescued from human trafficking networks in 2022, when these cases increased as well as the arrests of those involved in these events.
