Three days after the murder of his wife Laura Sankar, a 41-year-old handyman appeared before the High Court charged with murder.

Sankar, 34, was chopped to death on Saturday at her Post Office Trace, Princes Town home. Her husband, Narad Sankar, appeared before Master Shabiki Cazabon in South Court yesterday.

A sufficiency hearing was set for September 10, 2025.

Narad was charged by WPC Rampersad of HBI Region III on Monday, following advice from Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Sabrina Jaglal.

The court heard that Sankar was at her home at 5.45 pm on Saturday when she got into an argument with a male relative.

During the altercation, the man allegedly armed himself with a cutlass and inflicted several chop wounds on the victim, who died at the scene.

Following the incident, a report was made to the police, and the suspect was arrested shortly after.

The investigation was led by Ag Supt Persad and supervised by ASP Maharaj of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region III. —RADHICA DE SILVA
