Maria Corina asks the international community to recognize Edmundo
Opposition leader María Corina Machado urged the international community to recognize Edmundo González as the president-elect in Venezuela, as well as to maintain pressure against Nicolás Maduro for the repression unleashed after the presidential elections.
“Despite the obstacles, with more than a million volunteers and without resources, we managed to collect and digitize the voting records for public scrutiny. The evidence shows that Edmundo González is the elected president and that Maduro was defeated,” said María Corina in an interview with Fox News broadcast this Saturday.
«Edmundo González must be recognized as the president-electand measures must be taken to stop the forced migration of Venezuelans.”
In this regard, he thanked the Kamala Harris’ statementVice President of the United States, in which the American official recognized the struggle of Venezuelans and congratulated González for the election results.
“We received the letter with deep gratitude. The Vice President recognized the courage of Venezuelans and our fight for freedom,” Machado said.
Regarding Maduro’s repression, Machado highlighted: «Maduro has unleashed a campaign of terror. More than 2,000 people have been arrested or have disappeared. Our volunteers have been persecuted and tortured. Edmundo and I have been accused of terrorism, and many of our colleagues are in hiding.
“It is crucial that the Maduro regime be held accountable”he added.
According to the opposition, the political transition towards democracy must be consolidated to stop the Venezuelan diaspora and achieve the reunion of families in the country.
