He candidate Edmundo González Urrutia and opposition leader María Corina Machado met on Wednesday, September 18, with the presidents of Uruguay, Paraguay and Guatemala to discuss the political crisis in Venezuela.
Through her social networks, María Corina Machado thanked the presidents Luis Lacalle Pou, Santiago Peña and Bernardo Arévalo for the meeting “to align the positions of those of us who want freedom and democracy for Venezuela.”
“Edmundo González is the president-elect of Venezuela. Upholding and respecting the popular sovereignty expressed on July 28, and holding the regime accountable for systematic human rights violations and crimes against humanity, are urgent priorities for democrats around the world,” said María Corina Machado.
“Today we can confirm that we can count on our allies in the region to advance in this goal, and thus achieve, as soon as possible, the transition to democracy in our nation,” he added.
Guatemala describes the situation in Venezuela as alarming
After the meeting, the president of Guatemala also shared a message on his social networks, where He described what is happening in Venezuela as alarming due to the serious acts of violence and criminalization by the Nicolás Maduro regime.
“Guatemala stands with every Venezuelan who today fights for their freedom, dignity and peace. Venezuela deserves a future free of violence and persecution. Democracy is the only way,” said Arévalo.
