The main opposition leader and president of the Vente Venezuela party, María Corina Machado, said she will make new announcements over the weekend, which would involve leaders who would come from the government of Nicolás Maduro.

“There will be an interesting statement with actors who have been fighting against Chavismo, who come from there (…) It is a time when we are gaining more and more strength despite the hardships. “of repression internationally and locally,” Machado said during an interview with Spanish media on August 29.

The opposition leader stressed that Nicolás Maduro is getting worse every day «more isolated and naked» and insisted on the need for a negotiated transition, which she expressed her willingness to undertake.

“The regime has not yet given any signs of this. However, as internal and external pressure grows, There will come a point where Maduro understands that this is his best option. (…) We have to stand firm, denouncing all of Maduro’s abuses internationally and demanding that the world react,” said María Corina Machado during the interview.

The national coordinator of Vente Venezuela rejected the wave of arrests and called on the government of Nicolás Maduro to stop the repression against the “democratic and peaceful society”after learning of the arrests and disappearances of opposition leaders close to his entourage, such as the former governor of Barinas, Freddy Superlano; the former deputy Biagio Pillieri; and the lawyer and official spokesperson of the Command with Venezuela, Perkins Rocha.

Machado asks Spain to recognize González Urrutia’s victory

On Thursday, August 29, María Corina Machado denounced the “wave of repression” that the country is experiencing and asked the international community to respond by recognizing the victory of Edmundo González Urrutia as president-electin a step that Spain hopes to lead in Europe, according to reports from the EFE news agency.

«We need Europe with us “And Maduro has to know that the world is not going to turn the page. Countries that have dialogue with Maduro can do a lot. I would like to see Spain leading Europe in recognising Edmundo González as president-elect,” added the opposition leader.

Machado warned that the next raid ordered by Maduro’s government could be the one at the home of Edmungo González Urrutía, in reference to the three summons issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to the presidential candidate in the framework of an investigation against him related to the allegation of electoral fraud.
