Xiomara Barreto, mother of journalist Ana Carolina Guaita, denounced the authorities of La Guaira for the unjust detention of her daughter. She said that the arrest was made because they could not apprehend her.

“I am a victim of the worst government strategy that can be seen in the history of the world. I have a daughter, my daughter Ana Carolina Guaita, 32 years old, as a hostage of the governor and (Andrés) Goncalves since Tuesday the 20th, when she was unjustly detained,” Barreto said in an audio broadcast this Sunday by the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP).

Barreto was referring to Andrés Goncalves, head of the Security Directorate of the Government of La Guaira, where Ana Carolina Guaita is being held.

The journalist of The Watermelon and announcer was arrested by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service last Tuesday, August 20, in the El Rincón urbanization in Maiquetía, around 6:00 p.m., according to the SNTP.

“Mayor, if I speak up and ask you to release my daughter, Are you going to kill my daughter, are you going to murder my daughter? “Are they going to harm an innocent girl because they couldn’t catch me, who they are accusing of terrible atrocities just for being an opponent?” Barreto added.

The journalist’s parents, Xiomara and Carlos Guaita, belong to the leadership of the Copei party and have been in custody to avoid repression by the Nicolás Maduro regime. However, they are now under pressure with the arrest of their daughter. Barreto denounced that the arrest of her daughter is intended to harm her.
