Murdered child’s aunt to launch online petition to Govt

Anika Guerra was not among the thousands of students attending school this week. There were no photos of her in her new uniform on the first day of school, or hugs and kisses from her parents as she left for school. Instead, her relatives visited her grave, which she shares with her father Enrico, as they were buried in the same casket.

Guerra’s sister, Latifah Ali, yesterday posted a video on Facebook of her daughter dressed in school uniform at her cousin and uncle’s grave.

She wrote, “Since yesterday, Janaessa been asking me to take her to visit Anika. You know how hurtful it is to take a 5-year-old to visit her cousin at a cemetery so she can talk to her, knowing fully well she’s never going to get a response? Father God heal my children please.”

Guerra, 34, and his daughter were shot to death at his mini-mart in St Mary’s Village, Moruga, on August 21. Anika was shot five times.

Ali said they will be launching a petition on all social media platforms demanding that the authorities take action against crime.

She blamed the Government not for the murders, because they cannot “control people’s minds or demonic action,” but for turning a blind eye to them and failing to put their foot down on crime and for not focusing on things beneficial to the people and keeping their promises—like keeping citizens safe.

She said they will be writing to the Prime Minister, Attorney General and Commissioner of Police, who are “yet to make a move since being sworn into position of power.”

She noted that only one of those three heads (the Prime Minister) mentioned her niece and brother’s murder.

She lamented, “Not one even reached out to my family, but today we are reaching out to you all. They said the nation’s people do not take a stand in helping but we are ready to do so and with us banded together, justice must prevail. A petition will be released soon and we will be banging on the doors of the Government urging that we take matters more seriously and buckle down on the crime situation.”

Ali was also a family friend of murdered TT RideShare driver Shakem Charles.
