Nearly a million children and adolescents have received help

At least 923,000 children and adolescents received some kind of help humanitarian in Venezuela between January and July of this year, which does not mean that all their needs have been met, according to a report by the United Nations (UN) released on Wednesday.

Of the total of 1.6 million people “reached” by humanitarian projects implemented in the country, almost 60% were minors who had access to food, nutrition, education and other forms of assistance, at least until July 31.

According to the data presented by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA, in English), in the universe of minors, 52.65% were girls or female adolescents.

The report explains that aid in general has been distributed in Caracas and in the 23 states of the country, and has been focused mainly on health services, food security, protection, nutrition, water and hygiene, and education.

OCHA recalled that the target population, that is, the estimated number of Venezuelans with unmet basic needs, is 5.1 million people, which shows that aid this year has reached 20% of what was planned in the so-called Humanitarian Response Plan.

To achieve or come closer to these goals, the UN has worked with 147 organisations, half of them national, as well as with international entities operating in the country.

Humanitarian aid reached 2.7 million Venezuelans in 2023, as the country began to consolidate its incipient economic growth, which began at the end of 2021, after a deep economic crisis in which there was widespread shortage of food and medicine.
