Nicolás Maduro assures that he will fight against the corrupt: “We are going for them, firmly”

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said this Monday that he will not rest in his fight against “bureaucratism, indolence, the corrupt and traitors,” after the Attorney General’s Office reported on the arrest of former Minister of Petroleum and former president of PDVSA Pedro Tellecheafor alleged crimes “against the highest interests of the nation.”

Maduro, who did not directly name Tellechea, said that “bureaucratism” always results in the indolence of people “who have responsibilities and turn their faces to the people, do not hear it, do not see it, do not feel it, do not want it, do not protects him.”

“We are in a tireless battle, let no one get tired in the fight against bureaucratism, indolence, corruption, betrayal,” he added.

This Monday, the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office reported that Tellechea was arrested on Sunday along with his “most immediate collaborators”, whose identities he did not provide, for the “commission of serious crimes that threaten the highest interests of the nation.”

Maduro does not mention Tellechea and the investigation

Through a statement on Instagram, the Prosecutor’s Office highlighted, among “the different causes that are being pursued”, the “delivery of the Automated Command and Control System, known as the brain of PDVSA, to a company controlled by the US Intelligence Servicesthus violating all the legal mechanisms of Venezuela’s sovereignty.

Ripe had appointed Tellechea president of PDVSA in January 2023 and, two and a half months later, he also appointed him Minister of Petroleum, replacing Tareck el Aissami, who had resigned in the middle of an investigation into a corruption plot in the state oil company, which left more than fifty detained.

In August of this year he was replaced in the Petroleum portfolio by the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, and appointed Minister of Industries and National Promotion, a position from which he resigned last week, according to Tellechea himself, for health reasons.

After the resignation of the official, who thanked Maduro for the “trust” he had placed in him to carry out the different positions, the president appointed the Colombian businessman Alex Saab – designated as the president’s front man – minister of the Industries portfolio that Tellechea left vacant. .
