OMP organizes prayer and fundraising campaign

  • Oct, Tue, 2024

Pontifical Mission Societies (PMO)with the Missionary October campaign, prepares the celebration of the World Mission Sunday (Domund)next Sunday, October 20 throughout the country. In Caracas, the central Domund mass will be celebrated in the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral Church of Santa Ana at 11:30 am, presided over by the Archbishop of Caracas, Bishop Raúl Biord Castillo.

OMP is the main instrument of the Catholic Church to address the great needs that missionaries encounter in their work of evangelization throughout the world.

Domund is the international day on which the entire Church prays for its missionaries. Therefore, organize a fundraising campaign. This year the Domund motto: “Go and invite everyone to the banquet.” Through the message he remembers the importance of inviting everyone, bad and good, near and far, to the banquet of communion with the Risen Jesus.

At the crossroads of the roads

This year, in his message on the occasion of Domund, the Holy Father insists on exhorting the Church to leave itself and go to the crossroads. This is what Jesus asks in the parable of the banquet. It invites us to inhabit the peripheries of pain and poverty, “crossroads of the roads”; of those “corners of humanity” to which the Church is sent “to announce the Gospel to everyone, in all places, on all occasions, without delay, without disgust and without fear.” (EG 23).

There are 1,127 mission territories around the world. These are Christian communities on the peripheries of the world and local churches that have only been in existence for a few years or have serious material needs. These constitute more than a third of all dioceses in the world. The funds raised by the Pontifical Mission Societies through the Domund are allocated to them.

In Venezuela there are three of these territories, the apostolic vicariates of Tucupita, Puerto Ayacucho and Caroní. Located in the geographical peripheries of the country and inhabited by various indigenous ethnic groups that face precarious situations with little access to livelihoods and quality education.

Missionaries are lay or consecrated men and women, priests and bishops. They all dedicate their lives to bringing hope to these communities with the preaching of the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus that invites them to communion with Him. It also accompanies them in their efforts to achieve a dignified life as all God’s children deserve.

A month of prayer and charity

It is already a tradition that OMP promotes a fundraising campaign during the month of October. It is about joining forces to pray for the missionaries and cooperate with them to sustain the evangelizing work of the Catholic Church.

“Missionary October reminds us that through baptism we are all incorporated into the body of Christ, which is the Church. A missionary church, home to everything without borders. Each one is called to build universal brotherhood and to support each other in the task that the Lord Jesus left to his disciples. ‘Go and invite everyone to the banquet of communion with God, especially those who suffer loneliness and abandonment at the crossroads,’ said the P. Ricardo Elías Guillén, national director of PMS of Venezuela.
