Petrotrin Pays Out Medical Benefits To Former Employees
Petrotrin continues to pay out medical benefits to former employees two years after it was restructured and thousands sent home.
Speaking in the Lower House, Minister of National Security, Stuart Young, notes that when the restructuring process started, medical coverage officially ended.
He said an insurer was engaged for a period of two years to cushion the impact of retrenchment and former employees have been using the facility.
This was in addition to the $20 million Government had placed into a separate fund to cover medical expenses for critical care patients.
Both the group health plan and the critical care support end on November 30th, 2020.
To cover this sunset date, Mr. Young noted that a new lifetime plan has been established.
