PJ accuses the Maduro government of destroying the educational system
The opposition party Primero Justicia (PJ) This Monday he accused the government of Nicolás Maduro of “destroying” the educational systemwhich faces, according to training, a serious situation due to the “dropout” of students and the “shortage” of teachers.
«The Maduro regime has been destroying the Venezuelan educational system in recent years, without caring that education is a fundamental pillar for the formation of a society,” the organization said in a press release.
He pointed out that today the salary of a Venezuelan educator in the public sector does not exceed the equivalent of 30 dollars a month, an “insufficient” income to cover basic expenses, including foodfor which about $106 per month per person is needed, according to independent estimates.
Low salaries, PJ continued, “forced” teachers to “flee or look for other types of income to survive in a country plunged into misery,” where, in his opinion, there must be political will to “rescue” the educational system. .
According to estimates from the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB), nearly 250,000 teachers are needed to cover the initial, primary and secondary education classrooms that were left without instructors in the last decade.
Plan to “recover” the educational system
Last October, The Education portfolio launched a plan for the recovery of the sector which includes the voluntary reintegration of retired teachers into the classrooms, as well as keeping registrations open to guarantee the training of young people who are returning to the country from abroad, among other actions.
In that sense, Minister Héctor Rodríguez recently indicated that, in the state of Miranda (north), some 1,500 children have returned, mostly “without identification documents”, who – he expressed – must return to classes.
