PM talks national security and other matters with Singapore

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has participated in several events at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
Today, Dr Rowley joined heads of delegations representing over 50 nations from Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific at the formal opening ceremony at the start of the day.
The theme for CHOGM 2024 is ‘One Resilient Common Future: Transforming Our Common Wealth’. It is the first time that the meeting is being held in a Pacific Small Island Developing State (SID).
Since 1971, Leaders of Commonwealth countries meet every two years for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis. Trinidad and Tobago became the 16th country to join The Commonwealth on 31 August 1962 and hosted the 21st CHOGM from 27 to 29 November 2009.
The Prime Minister of Samoa, Afioga Fiame Naomi Mataafa, King of the United Kingdom, His Majesty King Charles III and Commonwealth Secretary General, the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland all delivered remarks at the opening ceremony.
After the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Rowley attended the CHOGM executive session at Parliament House.
Dr Rowley also met with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong for bilateral talks which focused on deepening partnerships in training and capacity building. The leaders identified national security, digital and public service transformation as sectors for cooperation.
Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Dr Amery Browne and His Excellency Vishnu Dhanpaul, High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Kingdom accompanied the Prime Minister.
