Police seize high-powered rifle and ammo
A high-powered rifle and ammunition were seized in Laventille on Saturday during an anti-crime exercise conducted by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
The operation, part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal firearms in high-risk communities, took place in the Beverly Hills Plannings area.
According to police reports, the operation was led by officers from the IATF Fort Chacon Base, supported by the Special Investigations Unit, who acted on intelligence that led them to a key location in the district.
Around 3:45 p.m., officers searched an electrical meter room near Building 10, where they uncovered an Sig Sauer M400 rifle—a semi-automatic firearm often associated with military and law enforcement use. The weapon was found loaded with 26 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, further highlighting the dangerous firepower circulating within the community.
