Prime Minister meets with U.S. Lawmakers in Barbados

Regional security, economic prosperity for the US and CARICOM, and climate goals were among the topics of discussion on Saturday, when Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley joined regional leaders in Bridgetown, Barbados for a meeting with a bipartisan US Congressional delegation.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister reports that at yesterday’s meeting, Dr Rowley and other CARICOM leaders held fruitful discussions with the delegation led by US Democratic Leader in the House of Representatives Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.

The delegation included Representative Maxine Waters Ranking Member, Committee on Financial Services; Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member, Foreign Affairs Committee and Member, Committee on Financial Services; and Republican Amata Coleman Radewagen Vice-Chairman, Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Member, Natural Resources Committee, and Member, Foreign Affairs Committee.

In 2023, Congressman Jeffries led a Congressional delegation in a visit to Trinidad and Tobago, where he joined US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the 45th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference.

T&T’s Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator Dr Amery Browne was also present at Saturday’s meeting.
