Prison officer’s fatal head wound self-inflicted, says MH Tactical

A Prison Officer who received a serious head wound while at the MH Tactical training facility in Chaguaramas, and who subsequently was pronounced dead at the St. James Medical Complex, may have died as a result of self-harm.

According to an official statement on the matter issued by the MH Tactical Response Group, the serious head wound which Prison Officer Kerry Sherwood sustained, was self-inflicted.

The correspondence release by the Group’s Attorney-at-Law, Vashisht Seepersad, reads as follows…

“MH Tactical Response Group wishes to correct certain statements that have been reported in the print and electronic media regarding an unfortunate incident that occurred today,” it began.

“Earlier today, September 13th, 2024, Prison Officer, Mr. Kerry Sherewood, unfortunately committed suicide by the use of a firearm while on the premises of MH Tactical Response Range,” the statement reported.

It continued: “MH Tactical Response Group wishes to express its condolences to the family of Prison Officer Kerry Sherewood during this very difficult time and asks the public to respect the family’s privacy during this time of grief.”

“MH Tactical Response Group has always maintained safety and security protocol adherence. It remains committed to providing its members with a safe secure and professional environment in which they can continue to enjoy all of the facilities our range provides to its members,” the MH Tactical statement said.
