Relative: Suspect in siblings’ murder showed no remorse

  • Sep, Sat, 2024

Residents of Nagee Road, New Grant, will be holding a vigil in honour of siblings Shenelle and Keston Singh this evening. Among those who will take part in the vigil will be the relatives of the 33-year-old suspect.

Yesterday, one of those relatives claimed the man, who allegedly chopped to death 16-year-old Shenelle and her brother Keston, showed no remorse after the brutal slaying.

The relative said he was instrumental in the police arrest on Thursday.

The relative told Guardian Media that he kept him “in a talk” while they alerted the police and waited for officers to arrive. The relative said the 33-year-old suspect did not seem afraid or sorry for his actions.

Investigators retrieved the bloody cutlass that was used in the attack. Homicide detectives are exploring a motive but were still trying to confirm the details yesterday.

Police revealed that the suspect was interviewed by homicide detectives yesterday.

The siblings’ brutal murders have left the Naggee Road, New Grant, Princes Town community outraged. Residents described them as loving and respectful “children.”

Keston, 21, had moved into the community about a year ago and was renting an apartment. Shenelle, a Form Four student of Mayaro Secondary, would often visit him. She lived with her mother in Mayaro.

However, last Saturday she left home to buy a school shoe and opted to spend some time at her brother’s home. They were liming at the suspect’s house when they were attacked sometime before 7 pm on September 4.

Residents, including the suspect’s relatives, found Shenelle’s body on the ground about ten feet away from the suspect’s home with multiple chop wounds to her face. Police later found her brother’s body slumped over a couch in the gallery with chop wounds to the neck and feet.

Their autopsies are expected to be done next week at the Forensic Science Centre.

Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3 are investigating.
