A relative of a missing 14-year-old mother and her one-year-old son yesterday criticised the police for not taking action after she got pregnant.

Linel Noel and her baby Kayleb were last seen by her great-grandmother, Josephine Noel, at her (Noel) Point Fortin home on Monday.

Her worried great-grandmother told reporters yesterday that she had spoken to Linel about returning to school. She left home on an errand thereafter and when she returned, the great-grandmother said Linel and the baby were not there. A suitcase and some of their clothing were also missing.

“Linel, please come back home. We need you. That is too much of a strain for me,” cried Noel.

She said the baby was a year and nine months old.

Another relative, who requested anonymity, said he saw Linel leaving her great-grandmother’s home in a black car on Tuesday morning. He said he believes that she is staying with someone in Point Fortin.

However, the relative said when he found out about her pregnancy, he made a police report.

“I report it to the police station and I made several reports and up to now nothing has been done. I went to the court with it,” he lamented.

“This child needs help. They need to help this child. How this reach to this day is because she did not get the right help from the right authority.”

He said he was hoping that Linel and the baby would return home safely.

“The way crime is in Trinidad and Tobago, when things like this happen you have to think twice… It is either you come back or you don’t come back. I would like her to come back safe and sound,” he said.

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother declined to comment.

Her father is working in Canada.

Contacted yesterday for comment on the family’s claims, the TTPS Corporate Communication department indicated that the Children’s Authority was involved in the case. As such, they declined to disclose any further information as the matter involved two minors.

Guardian Media contacted the Children’s Authority but up to press time had not received a response.
