Residents of Febeau Village silent after 2 killed in mass shooting

Residents of Febeau Village, San Juan, remained tight-lipped Monday about Sunday’s shooting in which two neighbourhood favourites were killed as they were liming at a shop in the area.

Refusing to confirm the identities of the two deceased, residents expressed dissatisfaction with online reports and advised Guardian Media to leave when they were approached to speak about the victims.

Residents elsewhere in San Juan warned Guardian Media against going to the area where the shooting had occurred.

One man said, “That is a zone. It is only one way in and one way out.”

Two men were killed whilst two other people were injured in the mass shooting along La Hoe Road, Laventille Road, Febeau Village, San Juan, on August 16.

Police identified those killed as Brandon Miller, 23, of La Fortune Road; and Roy Charles, 56, of La Hoe Road.

The injured included a female shop-keeper, aged 28; and a 56-year-old man – both of whom live at La Hoe Road.

Reports indicate the four were on the road outside Tifa’s Shop at La Hoe Road, around 8.15 pm when a white Nissan Tiida stopped and three gunmen ran out and opened fire on the group.

As those present scattered in various directions, the gunmen continued shooting before getting back into their waiting car which sped off.

As residents notified police and checked on the injured, the male victim was found alive lying in some bushes on the western side of the roadway, suffering from gunshot wounds about his body.

He was lifted and placed in the tray of the marked police van to be taken to hospital.

Officers were told the female victim had been rushed to hospital as well.

Miller and Charles were both declared dead at the scene.

The male victim was hospitalised in a stable condition, while the woman was treated and discharged.

Villagers on Monday said she had been seen walking along La Hoe Road, with her hand bandaged.

Police officers confirmed that a Glock pistol containing a quantity of ammunition was discovered on Miller as his body was being removed.

Forensic evidence collected at the scene included 31 spent shell casings of various calibre.

A female relative of Miller declined to speak except to say he had gone to visit family when the shooting occurred.

Over at Charles’s location, a grieving relative said, “We have no information for you, please leave.”
