Rocío San Miguel is awarded by Forum 2000 in Prague

The Forum 2000, created in 1997 by the former Czechoslovak president, playwright and dissident Václav Havel, has awarded its Award for Courage and Responsibility to the Venezuelan lawyer Rocío San Miguel, currently in prisonthe organization reported this Monday.

“Rocío San Miguel Sosa is one of the most experienced military and security experts in Venezuela. He did extremely important work with his NGO and also actively participated in international organizations that draw attention to the current situation in Venezuela. San Miguel is a human rights activist, and chairs “Control Ciudadano”, an NGO that oversees national security, defense, armed forces and Venezuela’s commitments regarding the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, as well as the Commission Inter-American Human Rights Commission (IACHR).

Last February, she was detained by security agents, who kept her incommunicado for 10 days in El Helicoide in Caracas, recalled the Forum 2000 statement.

Several human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Provea and Frente Amplio de Mujeres, They have condemned the arrest and demanded immediate releaseaccording to a precautionary measure granted by the IACHR.

Lawyer Tamara Sujú, who created the Venezuelan foundation “New National Conscience” and who lives under political asylum in the Czech Republic, received the award last night on behalf of the detainee from the president of the Czech Senate, Milos Vystrcil.
