San Souci man charged with Tobago jewellery store robbery

A 21-year-old man ap­peared be­fore the court yes­ter­day charged in con­nec­tion with a day­light heist at a jew­ellery store in Low­lands, To­ba­go, ear­li­er this year.

Ki­no Caldero, who is from San Souci Bay in Trinidad, was charged with rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion dur­ing the armed heist at Caribbean Jew­ellers in To­ba­go’s Low­lands Mall on Au­gust 14, 2024.

On Mon­day (No­vem­ber 11, 2024), Caldero ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter De Sil­va where he was grant­ed $250,000 bail, or a $25,000 cash al­ter­na­tive. He al­so was placed on a night­ly cur­few from 6 pm to 6 am, there­by re­strict­ing his move­ments.

The rob­bery was caught on CCTV. Se­cu­ri­ty footage showed two armed men dressed in con­struc­tion at­tire as­sault­ing a se­cu­ri­ty guard be­fore steal­ing from the store. The men es­caped with an undis­closed amount of jew­ellery. Some of the jew­ellery was found along a track near the mall soon af­ter the heist.

Caldero’s ar­rest was car­ried out by the To­ba­go Di­vi­sion’s Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID), with the as­sis­tance of po­lice of­fi­cers at the La Hor­quet­ta Po­lice Sta­tion in Trinidad.

How­ev­er, the sec­ond sus­pect al­leged­ly in­volved in this in­ci­dent re­mains at large, and the Po­lice Ser­vice is urg­ing any­one with in­for­ma­tion that could lead to his ar­rest to con­tact the To­ba­go Di­vi­sion CID, or their near­est po­lice sta­tion.
