San Souci man charged with Tobago jewellery store robbery
A 21-year-old man appeared before the court yesterday charged in connection with a daylight heist at a jewellery store in Lowlands, Tobago, earlier this year.
Kino Caldero, who is from San Souci Bay in Trinidad, was charged with robbery with aggravation during the armed heist at Caribbean Jewellers in Tobago’s Lowlands Mall on August 14, 2024.
On Monday (November 11, 2024), Caldero appeared before Master De Silva where he was granted $250,000 bail, or a $25,000 cash alternative. He also was placed on a nightly curfew from 6 pm to 6 am, thereby restricting his movements.
The robbery was caught on CCTV. Security footage showed two armed men dressed in construction attire assaulting a security guard before stealing from the store. The men escaped with an undisclosed amount of jewellery. Some of the jewellery was found along a track near the mall soon after the heist.
Caldero’s arrest was carried out by the Tobago Division’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID), with the assistance of police officers at the La Horquetta Police Station in Trinidad.
However, the second suspect allegedly involved in this incident remains at large, and the Police Service is urging anyone with information that could lead to his arrest to contact the Tobago Division CID, or their nearest police station.
