Sandals Resorts International Has Cancelled Its Tobago Project.

Executives of Sandals met with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and a government team.

Speaking at a media conference following the meeting the Chief Executive Officer of Sandals made the announcement.

Minister of Communications and National Security, Stuart Young re-iterated the sentiments that the withdrawal of the Sandals Brand from Tobago was disappointing. However he said the government will not give up on Tobago’s Tourism thrust.

Meanwhile, in an immediate response, the Tobago Business Chamber says it’s saddened at the withdrawal of the Sandals group from its proposed investment in the development of two major Brand Name Hotels in Tobago.

The Chamber says it remains committed to encouraging business and investment in Tobago believing that development can happen side by side with preserving and nurturing the natural environment and the eco-systems of the island.

The Chamber says it’s hopeful, all sides will be able to return to the table to resume negotiations and to find workable solutions to meet the aims and objectives of the two competing ideas.

They also hope Tobago recognizes the need for brand name Hotels to help boost and promote its Tourism thrust.
