Sangre Grande man dies in Cumuto accident
A 31-year-old man from Sangre Grande, identified as Quincy Moore, died in a fatal accident on Friday night after a truck slammed into his car.
The accident occurred at the Cumuto traffic lights in Wallerfield and emergency responders declared Moore dead at the scene.
Dashcam footage of the accident posted online shows a truck appearing to break a red light at the traffic light: moments later the truck collided with Moore’s vehicle.
Following the social media clip, Sharon Inglefield, president of Arrive Alive, a non-governmental organisation that seeks to educate the public on road safety, said on October 5, “If the red light was broken, it is a clear indication of running the red light and a disregard for the law.”
She described the accident as a preventable and avoidable collision.
“I hope the police are investigating this collision with urgency and if the driver did in fact run the red light, they are charged in a timely manner. Justice delayed is justice denied.”
She urged the public to remember, “Please follow the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act and its regulations, as it is designed to protect us all from serious crashes. Let us all obey the law to safeguard lives.”
