Saulsbrook Rolo tops sensational Atlantic Classic Sale
CRAPAUD, PE – Roll With Joe filly Saulsbrook Rolo garnered the top bid at the 2024 Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale held Friday at the Crapaud Agriplex in Crapaud, Prince Edward Island.
A total of 149 harness racing yearlings changed hands on the day for a gross of $1,740,000 with an HST included total of $2,001,000 in total sales on the day.
“There is no question optimism was in the air Friday in Crapaud with another fantastic sale,” said Atlantic Classic Sale Committee Chair Nicholas Oakes. “The breeders in Atlantic Canada put quality animals through the ring all day and the buyers showed their support in keeping sale results consistent with the records we have set in the past three years. The partnership our industry has on P.E.I., with the provincial government and racetrack operator Red Shores is second to none and it showed as horse people bought with confidence all day long.”
Roll With Joe filly Saulsbrook Rolo topped the sale selling for $40,000 with Carl Stafford grabbing the final bid of the daughter of Atlantic Champion Saulsbrook Alana.
The first Bulldog Hanover to sell in public auction in Canada was hip 13 Isle B Bulldog Beth who sold for $32,000 to Ontario trainer Victor Puddy. Stephen Johnston consigned the filly.
The top priced colt came near the end of the day as Donald MacRae dropped $38,000 for hip 147 Tobins Nibbler from the Robin Burke consignment. The sharp looking pacer is sired by Burke’s own Shanghai Phil.
Tobago Cays colt Islebebadtothebone was another sought after animal with a $34,000 price tag being signed by Ken Murphy from the Lynda Ramsay consignment.
EL Rocket colt Sputnik went for $26,000 from the Dusty Lane Farms consignment to Daniel Gaudreault of Quebec to top the sale for trotters.
Papi Rob Hanover colt Woodmere Robi fetched $29,000 going to new owner Randy Van Meer. Woodmere Farms also sold Rollwithitharry gelding Woodmere Styles for $25,000 to Red Oak Stables of P.E.I.
The Saulsbrook Farms consignment from Nova Scotia had a strong day with John Mehlenbacher purchasing hip 121 Saulsbrook Fancy for $27,000.
Consignors Jaunita and Alan MacLeod sent Bettors Delight colt Zendayas Bettorbuy through the ring for $27,000 with Brady Doyle signing the slip.
The Blaine Thibeau consignment sold a pair of fillies for $26,000 each with Donald MacRae purchasing Tobago Cays filly Camluck Lady and Nikway Farms buying Lady Rose, a sister to Woodbine Open Mares winner Western Wish from the first crop of Gold Cup and Saucer champion Somewhere Fancy.
The day had the fifth highest average in the history of the Atlantic Classic Sale at $11,678.
