A leading security expert is calling for the authorities—within educational institutions as well as in national security agencies, to take immediate and proactive steps to address bullying and its consequences.

Garvin Heerah’s call follows the recent tragic suicide death of a 15-year-old student from St Stephen’s College in Princes Town.

According to Heerah, this incident—reportedly driven by relentless bullying—has brought forth an urgent national security imperative and touches on the safety and well-being of T&T’s most vulnerable.

He says bullying in all its forms—whether physical, emotional, or cyber—represents a profound danger to the social fabric of this country.

The security expert maintains that it, “reflects the alarming failure of existing mechanisms within educational institutions to detect, address, and mitigate the harmful effects of bullying.”

“The nation cannot ignore the gravity of such issues,” Heerah says, “as they threaten not only the mental health of our youth but also the future stability of our society.”
