Seven arrested for drunk driving in POS

Police said seven motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, a firearm was seized, officers also recovered a stolen vehicle, while another was seized during police operations conducted in various divisions over the past 48 hours.

In an update Saturday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said:

“As part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and deter criminal activity, the Port-of-Spain Division conducted a comprehensive road check and DUI operation.

“The operation, which took place between 11pm yesterday and 3am on Saturday 28th September, involved the members of the Port-of-Spain DUI Task Force, resulted in the arrest of seven individuals.

“Motorists are urged to drive responsibly and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Such behaviour can have serious consequences, including imprisonment and the loss of driving privileges.”

Additionally, the TTPS said around 6 pm on September 25, 2024, Morvant CID officers on patrol received information about a suspicious vehicle parked on Laventille Extension Road, Morvant. Upon further investigation, the silver Toyota Axio was reportedly stolen on August 25, 2024, from the St. James Police District.

It also matched the description of a vehicle involved in a shooting incident, which occurred on September 18, 2024, in Chinapoo. The Crime Scene Unit was contacted for processing, and the vehicle was towed to the Morvant Police Station.

Also, yesterday, the Stolen Vehicles Squad in the Southern Division conducted an operation, during which time they discovered a white Nissan AD wagon, parked at Olera Heights Drive, San Fernando.

After checking the Licensing Database and TTPS records, discrepancies were found, raising suspicion.

Persons in the immediate surroundings were interviewed and the owner of the vehicle was identified, interviewed and allowed the officers to examine the vehicle which revealed that the chassis alphanumeric appeared to be tampered with.

The owner accompanied the officers to the San Fernando Police Station where she was further interviewed and a statement recorded from her.

The vehicle was seized and later conveyed to the Central Police Station, pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, between 2 pm and 7 pm yesterday, officers conducted an anti[1]crime operation in the Southern Division. At approximately 6:15 pm, PC Mathura stopped and searched a man during a mobile patrol along Chislom Street San Fernando, discovering a firearm with a magazine containing fourrounds of 9mm ammunition.

Police arrested the suspect, who was taken to the Marabella Police Station for further investigations.
