Six Venezuelans arrested in the Caribbean with tons of cocaine

Six Venezuelans were arrested last Saturday in Two major seizures of cocaine near the islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, The Caribbean Coast Guard reported. Authorities intercepted two speedboats in a three-hour period and seized a total of 1,790 kilos of the drug.

The first seizure occurred early on, when a patrol plane spotted a suspicious speedboat in the Caribbean Sea. The four smugglers on board, three Venezuelans and one Colombian, They threw the drugs into the sea before surrendering.

Approximately 1,290 kilos of cocaine were seized in this operation.

Shortly afterwards, a Navy ship intercepted another speedboat using its radar systems. The three Venezuelan smugglers on board tried to escape, but they were arrested after shots were fired at the engines of their boat.

In this second operation, 500 kilos of cocaine were seized.

The suspects and the drugs from the first seizure were transferred to the Curacao Police, while those from the second seizure were handed over to the Dutch Caribbean Police in Bonaire.

The authorities destroyed the seized narcotics, according to the Caribbean Coast Guard.

“The Navy ship works alternately with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Caribbean Coast Guard in anti-drug operations,” authorities said.
