Smooth road ahead: Sinkhole along highway repaired
The Ministry of Works and Transport says it has repaired the sinkhole on the southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway near Grand Bazaar, ahead of schedule.
In a Facebook post yesterday, the Works Ministry said the road is now fully accessible to vehicular traffic.
Last week, a sinkhole appeared in the area, which caused vehicles to be damaged as unsuspecting motorists drove over it.
Videos shared on social media showed good Samaritans initially trying to alert drivers to the sinkhole.
It was first brought to national attention on Monday when a motorist recorded other drivers passing over it.
The Ministry of Works and Transport stepped in hours later and began emergency repair works.
The road was closed on Friday and Saturday to allow for the construction work to take place.
