SNTP denounces the arrest of journalist Carmela Longo
The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) denounced this Sunday, August 25, the arrest of entertainment journalist Carmela Longo and her minor son.
According to the SNTP report, officers from the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) raided, with a court order, the journalist’s home in the Centro Aloa building, on Rómulo Gallegos Avenue in Caracas.

In addition to his arrest, officers seized computer equipment from his home. Few details of the case are known.
The journalist was fired from the newspaper Latest NewsIt was last August 20, after almost 20 years of work.
“Today, a stage of my life of almost 20 years ended, four days after leaving for vacation. I am grateful for that time for the things and above all for the excellent colleagues I had and where for more than half of that time I was a union delegate. That is what I will stick with,” Longo expressed on social media in this regard.

Persecution against journalists
The SNTP has recorded the arrests of six journalists following the presidential elections on July 28, after which a political crisis broke out in the country, according to information provided to EFE this Wednesday the secretary general of the union, Marco Ruiz.
The most recent case – he explained – is that of journalist Ana Carolina Guaita, a worker in the digital media The Watermelonwho was arrested on Tuesday afternoon near her residence in the state of La Guaira, close to Caracas.
According to his relatives, 24 hours have passed since the arrest without the whereabouts of the reporter or the reasons being known which led to his arrest, carried out -according to the SNTP- by agents of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin).
The union recalled that a dozen journalists are behind bars in the country, Four of them were arrested in the months leading up to the elections, some while covering campaign activities.
Until August 22, the NGO Criminal Forum 1,674 arbitrary arrests had been recorded in the context of the post-election situation. Of this total, 107 were adolescents.
