Spain will transfer to the EU the situation of Spaniards detained in Venezuela

The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, will address the “unacceptable” situation of the two Spanish citizens detained in Venezuela accused of being part of a terrorist operation against the regime of Nicolás Maduro.

Albares will raise this matter during a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg in which they will address the crisis in Venezuela and They will reaffirm their position that they do not recognize Maduro as president-elect democratically elected since they have not had access to the minutes of the July 28 elections.

“We are going to see how we can advance the democratic will of the Venezuelans who freely expressed it on July 28, always being a solution that has to be Venezuelan (…) it cannot be imposed from outside and of course it has to be peaceful,” the minister said in statements to the press upon his arrival at the meeting.

«We are going to analyze all that and, of course, I am going to put the unacceptable situation of our two citizens on the table again, the two Spaniards who are unjustly detained at the moment in Venezuela, as there is also a Czech citizen,” he added.

Albares highlighted that since July 28, the situation in Venezuela has been debated in all the councils of EU foreign ministers “at the request of Spain.”

Spaniards detained in Venezuela

The two Spanish citizens were arrested in September in Venezuela accused of being part of an operation directed by the United States to assassinate Nicolás Maduro, who has designated them as “terrorists” and assured that they are linked to the National Intelligence Center (CNI) of Spain. .

The Spanish government has denied that Spain is involved in a political destabilization operation in Venezuela and that the two detainees are part of the CNI.
