The 29-year-old suspect who was arrested in connection with the murder of Tara Ramsaroop and her one-year-old baby Jada Mootilal will be charged with murder.

The instructions were handed down to officers of the Homicide Bureau South yesterday evening by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

This information was confirmed by a senior officer.

Meanwhile, Ramsaroop’s children are extremely traumatised by her killing and are receiving counselling.

Ramsaroop, 34, and one-year-old baby Jada were chopped to death on Tuesday in a house at Location Road, Barrackpore, allegedly by a close male relative.

Ramsaroop’s sister Jassodra Rajaram said yesterday that the family has begun to receive counselling through the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

She said the process began on Wednesday at the family home with Tara’s siblings and two of her children, aged 14 and 15, participating.

“Dem(sic) children traumatised, the boy and the girl, and while we had counselling yesterday (Wednesday), this child just break down and start to cry,” she said.

She said the other surviving child, aged 7, was not part of the counselling session but attended the wake for his mother and sister. Ramsaroop said he is aware of what occurred and is very sad.

“I ask him where your mummy, he say she not here anymore. I say where you sister, he say she not here anymore too. I say where are they, he point upwards, so I say where are they in heaven? He say yes,” she said.

She said he is now being cared for by his grandmother.

Rajaram explained that the entire family remained rattled by the murders.

“We can’t eat, we can’t sleep,” she said.

Tara’s sister also sought to clear the air on why her sister was at the home of the accused when she was killed.

She maintained that her sister was forced by the suspect after she dropped her son off at school.

“As the child came out and start to walk up to the school, he run in and jump in she car…I know my sister would never go by him, never,” she said.

In a radio interview on Tuesday, ACP Wayne Mystar said it was “quite strange” that Ramsaroop was at the suspect’s house while a protection order was in effect.

Rajaram yesterday appealed to the public to allow her sister to now rest in peace.

The funeral for Tara and Jada will take place tomorrow at at GP Road, Barrackpore.
