Teaching Service Commission in mourning with the passing of Lisa Morris-Julian

“Her contributions as a motivating teacher, humble public servant and role model to the youth in her community will always be remembered…”

That tribute from the Teaching Service Commission, which has added its voice to those remembering the late Lisa Morris-Julian, Minister in the Ministry of Education, who, along with two of her children, died tragically in a fire at her home in Arima on Monday, December 16, 2024.

“The Members of the Commission extend sincerest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, constituents and all those who are grieving this shocking and devastating loss and will keep them in their thoughts and prayers,” the Commission said in a statement.

The Commission pointed to the late minister’s contribution to the country, both in the education sector and in local government, before moving to national politics.

“Mrs. Morris Julian will be remembered for her distinguished role in our country’s political landscape through her service as Deputy Mayor, Mayor and as Member of Parliament in her hometown of Arima and D’Abadie/O’Meara respectively,” the Commission wrote.

“Also of significance, was her contribution as a stalwart in the sphere of the development of education through her role as a teacher at the Barataria South Secondary School and Arima Central Secondary School in the early part of her career,” it noted, “and her subsequent tenure as the Minister in the Ministry of Education.”

The Commission also recalled that its interaction and collaboration with the late minister were “always cordial, fruitful and supportive of the Commission’s vision for excellence in education in T&T.”
