THA comes under criticism over alleged delays in Carnival preparation

Chairman of the Tobago Business Chamber Martin George has slammed reports of alleged tardiness by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) concerning the island’s Carnival budget and other preparations.

The event is expected to take place between October 25-27.

In a video message posted on social media on Thursday, Political Leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots, Watson Duke questioned whether Tobago would indeed host the event in two weeks as “there appears to be little promotion for the event.”

Duke also noted that there’s usually a ‘certain energy’ in the air in the lead-up to such events, however this year it seems to be missing.

In a subsequent voice message sent to Loop News expressing his concern, George too criticised the island’s leadership and their “inability” to deal with the matter.

He said: “It again reveals the sheer inability and incompetence of the leaders we have in Tobago in that they are unable to deal with the slightest or smallest of things or events. They have shown that these things are beyond their grasp, their capability and their competence.”

George further criticised the THA’s trip to Grenada to “learn about Carnival.”

“How inane could you be when Trinidad is the Mecca, the home of Carnival. People from all over the world come to Trinidad to study Carnival but yet still these clowns we have in Tobago decided they want to go to Grenada to study Carnival,” he said.
