The opposition demands to live Christmas without political prisoners
The largest opposition coalition in Venezuela, Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), demanded this Friday that at Christmas there should be no political prisoners in the countrywhere there are 1,963 citizens under this condition, according to the NGO Foro Penal, which assures that the majority were detained after the presidential elections on July 28, when protests broke out against the official result that gave Nicolás Maduro’s re-election.

Likewise, he expressed his support for the families of the detainees and expressed that the freedom of “each of the people” who remain behind bars for “wanting a country with a future” is a “priority.”
This Thursday, dozens of people protested in front of the Attorney General’s Office to demand new releases of detainees after the presidential elections, after in recent days Justice granted 225 “liberty measures,” although with restrictions and continuity of judicial processes.

The relatives of the prisoners asked the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, to publish the list of people who benefited from the measures granted, since Foro Penal assures that only 143 releases were carried out.
After the elections, the PUD denounced Maduro’s victory as “fraudulent”, whom it accuses of “repressing” the opposition, while the official leader and the Prosecutor’s Office accuse those detained in the post-election context of generating “violence” and “vandalism.” ”, and the opposition bloc of being responsible for the 28 deaths that were recorded in the demonstrations.
