The University of Valencia had been closed since 1904, by orders of General Cipriano Castro.
The secretary of the UC, Pablo Aure, cites that despite being closed, citizens were able to continue their academic training, since in 1915, the president of the state at that time, Emilio Fernandezcreated the Institute of Political Sciences, which was attached to the Central University of Venezuela.
That is why, despite having studied in Valencia, several lawyers obtained their degrees as graduates of the UCV.
Aure remembers that in his heyday, being a UC student or a worker was a privilege. The teachers They had good salaries and the entire community had good health care and social security services. The students also had services such as transportation, dining and medical care, because there was a budget available to cover these expenses.
The secretary considers that in budgetary matters, the university has always represented “a stone in the shoe” for the rulers, because it is an institution free and contestable and plural, where there is no single thought.
The teacher assured that in recent years the UC has been very bad, because has been hit hard, not only because of the budget, but its autonomy was violated.
“I say that our autonomy has been invaded, because according to the law, we are the ones who must prepare the budget and send it to the Executive for execution. But since 2007 until now, they approve the budget that they consider relevant”.
In his opinion, item 401, which is the personnel payroll, was intervened, because now the workers are canceled through the Patria system.
The secretary described the salaries received by university workers as miserable.
He said that regardless of the government the country has, universities must be that lighthouse that illuminates the path to democratic freedoms.
“The motto of the University of Carabobo is Light of an Immortal Earth. That is why I believe that we must light that torch that allows university students to sit down and talk with any government, for the future of the nation.”
Aure considers that university students have lacked think big. Consider that they cannot be in a position of submission to any government, but rather one of mutual respect.
“That is, we respect each other, but we are also obliged to provide solutions, not only for the country, but in principle for ourselves.” themselves”.
