The UCV School of Social Communication celebrates its 78th anniversary

Next Thursday, October 24, the 78th Anniversary of the School of Social Communication of the Central University of Venezuelaand a week of activities has been prepared to elevate voices that inspire from training, communicative practice, professional practice, with academic excellence, from truth and commitment to the country.

Programming starts on October 21 with the journalism clinic: Keys to covering indigenous issues, with journalists Rosamist Moreno, from Radar de Amazonas and Simeón Rojas, defender of indigenous and environmental rights; and for La Vida de Nos, the journalists Cristina González and Erick Lezama, editor.

On October 22, The space is opened to talk about the events that occurred during November 27, 1992, based on anecdotes and experiences, the researcher and teacher of the School of Social Work Gustavo Bastardo, scriptwriter of the documentary 27N, will be invited as a guest.

Regarding human rights, freedom of opinion and expression, as well as ethical principles and the practice of journalism, Professor Edgar Cárdenas and other representatives of the Caracas Sectional College of Journalists will be the speakers for this interesting conversation on October 23 .

The Central Act of the 78th Anniversary and Inaugural Lecture 2024-2 is the Tribute to Jesús Rosas Marcano, for his work as a trainer of generations of journalists, as an academic researcher, as a poet, as an innovator of school journalism and as a composer, whose themes continue current in the Venezuelan popular repertoire.

The classes of social communicators who graduated from this House of Studies in 1974, which just celebrated its 50th anniversary, and that of 1992, have as their eponym Professor Rosas Marcano, whose profile will be in charge of the outstanding professor Gloria Cuenca. The welcome corresponds to Professor Hilayaly Valera, director of the School and member of the Class of 1992, while Professor Luis Manuel Escalante, member of the Class of 1974, will give a brief dissertation about the Master.

The organizers of the anniversary event, whose motto “Voices that inspire”, have invited a series of personalities, among whom they have already confirmed their attendance: Dr. Pedro Barrios, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the UCV; and the president of the National College of Journalists, Mr. Tinedo Guía, who will address words of greeting.

The event will conclude with a musical evening by the Choir of the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the UCV, directed by Professor Roberto Ruiz. She will perform pieces by Professor Rosas Marcano, some of them popularized by the group “Un solo pueblo.”

The activity to finalize the 78th Anniversary programming, It will be on October 25 and calls on the teachers of the School of Social Communication for the Fifth Workshop “Programs by Competencies”, within the framework of the 2024 goal, the Year of curricular transformation.

The activities will take place in the Antonio Pasquali Room, floor 2 of the School of Social Communication, and are open to the interested public, free of charge. Everyone is invited! For more information follow us @ecs_ucv.
