The Unitary Platform thanks the countries that supported the extension of the UN Mission

The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), expressed this Friday its gratitude to the countries that voted in favor of extending for two years the work of the independent international UN Mission for the country, which it has indicated in its reports to the government of Nicolás Maduro for “serious abuses and possible crimes against humanity.”

“We appreciate the firm support of the nations that support this resolution and we remain committed to the fight for freedom, justice and peace in Venezuela,” expressed the PUD through X.

The resolution was approved by the UN Human Rights Council, with 23 votes in favor, 6 against (Algeria, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Sudan and Vietnam) and 18 abstentions.

The PUD affirmed that the “Maduro regime is increasingly left alone, supported only by authoritarian governments”, while – it added – “the majority of the countries in the world” are committed to “respect for human rights” and the “recovery » of Venezuelan democracy.

For the PUD, the decision to renew the mission’s mandate “reaffirms the commitment of the international community to continue denouncing the serious violations of human rights” in Venezuela and “maintain the focus on the humanitarian emergency that has forced millions of Venezuelans to flee”.

The document urges authorities to cooperate with the mission as well as with the UN Office for Human Rights, whose local representation in Venezuela was expelled in February.

The text deeply regrets that decision and also expresses alarm at “the worsening of violations and transgressions of human rights and the increase in restrictions on civic and democratic space,” especially in the context of the presidential elections on July 28.

In September, the mission noted in its latest report that the abuses have intensified after the elections to silence any criticism and doubt that Maduro was the winner, after the PUD denounced the official result as “fraudulent” and assured that the winner It was its standard bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia.
