This Friday, Nicolás Maduro announced the implementation of a new payment method that will be used in the Caracas Metro. It is the Single Electronic Travel System (SUVE)which seeks to facilitate access to the capital’s underground transport and guarantee a faster and safer service for users.

During an inspection visit to the Metrobús system workshops in La Paz, Maduro stressed that the main objective of the SUVE is to improve the efficiency of the service and reduce waiting times on the Metro.

“It is a more than social rate, it is almost a free ticket”he commented, while assuring that, while it is true that an affordable price for citizens must be maintained, investment is also necessary for the maintenance of the units.

The SUVE will allow users to access the Metro using an electronic card. This can be recharged in advance, which will speed up the process of entering stations and avoid long queues at ticket offices.

What will the new payment method for the Caracas Metro be like?

Likewise, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, Minister of Transport, offered additional details on the operation of the new payment method for the metro.

As he explained, They have designed different types of cards for different groups of the population: Senior citizens will be given a tax-exempt card. Students will be given a blue card that offers a 50% discount on the regular fare. The red card will be for users who pay the full fare, in accordance with current regulations.

However, this payment method will not be limited exclusively to the Caracas Metro. It will be implemented progressively throughout the entire public transport system nationwide.
