Despite the recent increase in criminal activities, particulary murders in Tobago,

Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk has given the assurance that police officers on the island will continue to do their best.

Kirk spoke at a commendation ceremony for officers on the island on Thursday.

The ceremony was held to present to officers financial rewards and certificates for the work that they accomplished over the past few months in relation to the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition.

He said despite criticism, officers would know the extent to which they have gone to try to make and keep Tobago safe.

The Tobago Division received a cash incentive of $20,000 for the recently accomplished work, with officers involved in the recoveries each receiving an undisclosed sum.

According to ACP Colis Hazel, to date the officers removed 17 illegal firearms and 186 rounds of ammunition from the streets.

He said: “There are many other things which we can commend our officers for, however, firearm and ammunition are the challenges of Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean and the World.”
