Tobago prison officer held as $20,000 in warrant payments missing
A Tobago prison officer has been arrested in connection to the theft of over $20,000 in warrant payments at the Tobago Prison on Young Street, Scarborough.
The allegations stem from an audit conducted in June 2024. The audit revealed discrepancies in the prison’s financial records, particularly in the Warrant Department.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that between October 2023 and January 2024, a sum of $26,498 that was meant to be deposited at the Treasury was missing.
This money was payments on outstanding affiliation warrants. Police arrested the 38-year-old Prison Officer I on Saturday in connection with the missing funds.
